Everything Windows App

There are certain Windows applications that I use on an almost daily basis. Everything is one of those applications.

What is it?

From the website:

"Everything" is a search engine that locates files and folders by filename instantly for Windows. Unlike Windows search "Everything" initially displays every file and folder on your computer (hence the name "Everything"). You type in a search filter to limit what files and folders are displayed.

Configuration

It is very configurable. Some of my configurations are below.

I use the following columns:

• Name
• Path
• Date Run (sorted by most recent Run at the top)
• Date Modified

Under Tools > Options > General > Keyboard, I have Toggle window Hotkey set to Ctrl+Shift+S. This allows me to quickly open Everything whenever needed. I use this shortcut all the time. It is especially useful for opening .NET solution (.sln) files.

Search Examples

• ext:html - Find files with the extension of html
• size:>=1000mb - Find folders or files with a size larger than or equal to 1000mb
• ext:exe size:>100mb - Find executable files that are larger than 100mb
• install*.exe - Find executable files that begin with install (* is a wildcard)
• audio: - Find audio files
