2023 Habits

Last Updated: February 19, 2023

The beginning of a new year seems to always push me to improve my processes. A fresh slate. In the last couple of years I started tracking habits for things I wanted to do consistently. I was able to convert a couple of things into consistent habits, but failed at others.

A big part of not keeping consistent with some of my habits is not making them small enough. This year I'm planning on starting small. I want to master the art of showing up. I hope that the momentum of showing up every day will translate into consistency.

The six habits I'm starting off the year tracking are:

  1. In bed by 9:30 9:45
  2. Exercising
  3. Journaling
  4. Meditating
  5. Writing (Blog)
  6. Deliberate practice

My goal is to do some version of these every day sans exercising, which I skip on Sundays. I want to start small with journaling, writing, and deliberate practice, which I have historically struggled to convert into consistent habits. For me, this means setting a timer for 5 minutes and considering it a success if I show up for that amount of time. I might do more than that, but all I need to do is show up for 5 minutes. During my weekly review, I will record the number of times I completed the habit during my weekly review to keep myself accountable. I will also publish the full-year results on this post for the one other person who reads this blog. (Hi, Mom! 😂)
